    • Dude...you told em! There's nothing like saying you are above something by posting how stupid it is in a discussion about it.

That's the true April fool's joke. They pummel you with jokes until you puke. Hilarious.

    • It has been consistently unfunny for the last 10 AFDs. What is funny is that EVERY YEAR, even though we all know it's coming, people still come on here and bitch about it and people STILL waste mod points on it as if Slashdot's going to change.

      Pathetic.

    • I thought the "OMG Ponies!!!" one from years back was good. Every year I keep hoping it'll be that good again.

You had me until the 10 people bit when everyone knows 2 maybe 3 people could handle the wave traffic.

The number would need to be much higher than 10. This is not a problem with demand, no. It is a problem with geography. Google Wave is available to more than 10 countries. For this scheme to work, with a reasonable response time, we would need at least one or two people per country (depending on country size). Other than this impracticality, I like the idea... It would also require people to have gps tracking turned on so the Google people could find them...
      • If you want to stop incredibly long journeys, I think you could get by with about 10.

One for the US, one for Canada (two nations with heaviest user base). One for South America. One for Europe (who could get to GB using the Chunnel), one for Asia, one for Africa and Madagascar, one for Australia and surrounds (Indonesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea). Maybe one for Japan, since they probably have it integrated into their smartphones or maybe even their cerebral cortexes by now. Maybe one for Cuba and t

    • I vote they fire everyone except Heisenberg and the puppy.
  • So...I'm sitting there on my computer when this hot girl comes up telling me there's been a response to my first "wave"...which was "Is this thing on?". It sat there, like a wet fart on a humid day for literally two months with no responses.

What does she do? Asks me if I want to pay her to play a game with her. As if! That's just wrong, google!

(We're currently trying to level my paladin, he's sitting at level 37. Sucks. She's better than I am...and getting paid to do it!)

I thought it was Topeka now?

    I'm so confused. :-(

  • That's more than the number of people who will read this story.
  • Am I the only one who tried to watch the YouTube video in TFA in text mode? You would think they would try to coordinate some of these...

    • You can watch it in text mode. Just click through to the actual youtube site to do so. Text mode doesn't work with embedded videos.

    That's Topeka Wave to you!

  • I keep instinctively asking that chick to show me her tits. What they hell have you done, internet?!

    • I know, same here! It made me realize I've never had a conversation with a girl on web cam that didn't, at some point, show me her tits.

is like watching Hollywood try to do geek stuff.

You guys are to humor what The Net and Swordfish are to computers.

    • I think the proportion of /. style of presenting user-generated content (heavily moderated submission of topics, very limited moderation of comments) and reddit style (anyone can freely submit, freely moderating everything, by moderation I mean voting) should be different for different broad subjects and humor is one of those subjects where the moderation should be up to all voters, reddit-style. I can rely more on the sense of technology of /. PTB than on their sense of humor.

    • I know. I come for the complainers. You guys are even funnier than the attempts at humor.

    • You mean completely awesome?
  • Wave is that popular already?, soon they'll be more useful than twitter.

  • That's a little overkill.

  • I was able to unload my Wave invites for like $20 each on eBay when I got in on the ground floor. Haven't logged in since. :)

  • For those of you looking to fill your meme quotient for the day... Yo dawg, we heard you like Google Wave, so we got a real person to wave at you while you wave at your friends from your wave.
  • I know it's a joke but I still want it!
  • I get jokes.
  • At least it finally explains why they spent so much money on street view, it's so they can find you for the wave waves.
  • who do u have to sleep with around here to get an article submission, my one about the Data Cable laying Ferets was much better than this tosh
  • Ok, so a city in Kansas is hiring people to go wave at other people? Do I have it right? Or is this an old story about Topeka?

  • Wave really needed such notifications; even the Firefox plugin wasn't really all that good.

But... are these human Google Wave notifiers configurable and themable? If not, I think that's a feature that really needs to be added. And, no, I don't want to have to use a theme editor just to get the kind of Google Wave notifier I like.

  • Now has a "3D" option that lets you use 3D glasses to view the page as though it was curved in a book?

I'm assuming this is an April 1 joke, right? Right?

  • In my school, somebody just waved to me signifying something new in my google wave. Guess I have to start using "wave" again.
  • Even though everyone around here is absolutely in love with Google, can we please not post every single April Fools joke that that company does?
  • as many as 10 people for these positions to deal with all the wave traffic

    Oof, that's got to sting.

All three users, on the other hand, were very happy with this development.
