Unless they release a total piece of crap, or something with no marketable desire, I think Google's entry will be one more step to furthering competition and pricing in the cell phone market. With Google's numerous online properties (that I would expect to be accessible through their gPhone offering) it may evoke a better implementation strategy from other cell phone carriers and manufacturers to stay competitive.
It's a shame that there isnt enough information for intelligent speculation as of yet.
