Echostorm writes "The innocuous "Automatic Updates" Windows Update option finally reared its ugly head today as Windows Vista SP1 updates started rolling out the Microsoft Windows Update pipeline to end users. What I for one didn't know was that one of these self same updates has now looped over 56 times on my computer with no sign of stopping — spiraling me down an endless headache of "Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 — 0% complete. Do not turn off your computer." "Shutting down" [restarts and loops]. Luckily we have Windows Safe Mode! Fortuitously astute Microsoft programmers decided Safe Mode needs to configure updates prior to booting too. Resolution? None in sight. In an hour of Googling I not only discovered that the same bug seemed to evolve when SP1 was in early beta releases, but that its prevalence for striking has become increasing apparent within the past 48 hours. Official Microsoft forum threads are beginning to grow, and the 3 am bewitching hour when all automatic updates seem to run will undoubtedly add more victims to the SP1 Update Demon that has been spawned. 126 reboots now with no end in sight — should I video tape this as a YouTube viral video, or maybe even set a Guinness World Record? Alas, the insidious Microsoft Windows Vista in its ever self serving nature has finally taken my PC away from me, all at the thought of being a little more bug free with SP1. Fix this Microsoft!"

I do not understand, the updates that this article is referring to are NOT SP1. I got these updates and had no issues at all, in fact, I have no issues with Vista either.SP1 has not been released to the public yet, only a few testers.
