Is master/slave offensive? I don't honestly give a shit. The industry wants to use new words. Why bother getting upset? You guys are all upset about SJWs taking away words you never used except when you upgraded motherboards or hard drives....and most of you fuckers are probably on a laptop, so it's not even relevant. Also, master/slave is pretty inarticulate. It's not even a particularly descriptive word for what is happening. I am sure the industry has better, more intuitive labels.
Also, most of what you like to call SJW shit is just corporations hoping to make money overseas. They don't care about your cause or the SJWs...they just want to avoid controversy. If you're shipping a motherboard or a server system, you don't care about US politics, just revenue. Master/Slave is a distraction from your real job.
But really, how fucking old and senile are you? I'm pretty fucking old and I just accept that things change. I'm literally autistic and even I can understand that just because something is "harmless" to me, doesn't mean it's not irritating to people in some other region of the globe. Why can't you people understand that your view of the world is not universal? Communication is relative. Language that is perfectly fine in your shithole part of the country won't fly in a room full of people with good jobs who make good money in international businesses.
A global business needs to consider global needs...China, Denmark, the Congo, Argentina...each has different cultures and different norms, but I can say with confidence getting those international dollars without friction is far more valuable than standing up for stupid, dated terms, like Master/Slave.
Just grow the fuck up. Life changes. Things change. Adapt or die. Nothing is worse than hearing an old guy ramble on about his "In my day..." stories...except maybe some loser getting upset because he has to change and is screaming into the void while no one but his social media buddies care.
You don't have to like every change that comes your way, but you do have to adapt.
Lol, yes how dare someone waste precious comment space that could be better taken up by "Why the internet sucks in 2021" or "GNAA" copypasta! Why, he will disrupt the precious discussions being had on this site with his comments!

I meant not commenting is the best way to show you don't care. Of course I've posted my fair share of "...is this really news for nerds" comments so obviously it's a hard rule for me to follow as well.
Well, it's human nature - among the many things we want other people to know is how little we care about any given topic, and we're often quite loud about it lol. But I don't really think his comment falls into that category, though at first glance it might appear to. The point is that this sort of shit has always been going on, and always will be going on - it's kind of silly to get upset about it. I don't agree with this sort of nonsense navel-gazing shit either, but I also don't really give much of a shi

Sovervillain didn't post all that because he doesn't care about master/slave, he posted all that because he's really annoyed by people who fail to understand the reality that things change and that their own view isn't universal.

I think you missed the later part of the post where Sovervillain rants about Master/Slave being outdated and stupid - with no particular evidence or reason. He's clearly not as apathetic about the topic as he announces at the start of the post.
I'm more or less here. I think it's silly but I'm not losing any sleep over it by any stretch. You just kind of look on, face blank, and move on. It's even becoming a boring topic to discuss. It's down about #72,432 on my list of things that upset me.
The industry wants to use new words. Why bother getting upset?
Because if you can wear people down fighting over something this inconsequential, you can reduce the energy available to fight other things you want to preserve.
Or so the theory goes. It's kind of a Domino Theory of blocking social progress.
You seem stupid. There is no progress by banning English words that are used in a neutral context, in a way that doesn't connote persecution or oppression of any kind.
It is very offensive to tell people they can't use harmless words because reasons. But "progressives" are hypocrites. It's OK for them to be offensive because reasons.

Yeah, that's a neat trick if you can pull it off.
I mean there were the people doing the real work, just humming along, then your lot comes along and raises a big stink about how their terminology hurts your wittle feelings. YOU raising the stink, they were just there already doing their thing.
Then if they have a choice word or two for you and tell you to pack sand, you act like they are the losers who can't deal with things.
Yeah, a neat slight of hand, if you can pull it off.

I believe unfalsifiable statements such as the ones expressed above should be summarily ignored as they convey no useful information at all.
If someone were to complain about the collapse of democracy in Germany and the rise of the third r.e.ich this same tired change adverse / "get over it" line could be invoked and it would be no more or less applicable.
Change should not be accepted out of deference to the future or deference to bandwagon fallacy. Change should be evaluated on the merits.
NOBODY is truly "offended" by dictionary words, and certainly no words cause actual physical harm. Anybody who is psychologically damaged by words needs to seek counseling, rather than requiring all of society to change. No. I'm tired of getting bossed around by people who could themselves be inclusive, if they weren't so hell-bent on upending a perfectly reasonable standard in the name of "social justice" and "human decency".

this is the real problem, when they force you into something and the alternative is "die", this is their spirit and, in this case, we need to be very cautious about what they are forcing us to do. Yeah simply a word..yes... no harm, but this is a step and then comes another.

Sure, you can ensure you never give an inch...and fight to make the world accommodate what you are comfortable with...or you can pick and choose your battles. The only thing certain is change and you WILL need to change in one way or another. Survival of the fittest doesn't favor excellence, it favors adaptability. You are not forced to adapt to all changes, and sometimes it is wrong to adapt, in order to defent your son's future too. I adapted to lot of changes, for meaningful reasons or perception changes BUT as mentioned, in this case.. this is only one word but is clearly a step in the wrong direction. And yes there is a mob out there forcing people, shaming guys for no real sin, and this is wrong because you accept an inexistent guilt, and if you don't see this... we are living in different worlds.
