No, I was getting them as well. They are including files via http instead of just using the native file system which would be much faster. The problem is that all those includes are making another request to the web server instead of just to the file system directly. Since the web server is overloaded as it is this just adds insult to injury.

I would have thought it's a good idea to turn off the display of PHP errors [php.net] and make sure log_errors is on, as well.

Not only is the site totally b0rked, but so are the caches because of this.

Digital Photo Frame

The coolest looking product at the AMD table was the Samsung Digital Photo Frame. This is a 7 inch LCD frame that has Ethernet, USB, SD, and CF connections.

What, no wireless connection?

Actually, that's a good point. Having a digital photo frame update itself over 802.11b or some other wireless standard would be pretty neat. Maybe a flickr enabled digital photo frame? (uh oh... I think I just gave away a million dollar idea).

Hey... I was the one who shot the photos in the aticle. I don't remember, but maybe it does have wireless and we weren't told. It's not AMD's product, they were just showing it off at their booth cause it uses AMD chips. The info sheet given to us by AMD says "equipped with content playing functions and a network module." We'll check in with Samsung in the next few days to find out for sure whether it does or doesn't.

I have a little Mini-ITX system hooked up to a flat panel display on my wall, running gqview set to randomly walk the image directory tree with a new image every 30 seconds.

All my computers use rsync to nightly update a copy of the master image directory onto this picture frame machine.

So whatever machine I download images to from my camera, the pictures find their way to the big photo frame by the next day.

I also have a web server on the machine, which displays an autoupdating page with the current image o

Honestly, I think it's a dynamite idea. Parents would love to give one to their parents and then update the pictures themselves. So instead of having to email pics of their grandkids to them, you just put them on a server and this thing gets them from time to time and updates what is being display on the frame (whereever it is).

One such product did this exactly (over a phone), others did 802.11. But anyway, none sold.

After much research this is the best one I could find. The only issue of course is the cost. Frankly, it's more than I want to pay... Having said that, in trying to price a DIY system that does all this seemed to result in similar if not more cost.

Fake? I can't speak for all the products, of course, but what I've seen have been working models.

Prototypes are certainly represented, but I didn't see anything like those plastic computers that you find in furniture stores.

Well, the article summary has now been edited to read that there were "free food and drinks". But that raises an even more interesting point, as the "free complementary" line was actually a quote from the linked article. The site is slashdotted, so I can't check for sure, but I guess the original article has not been corrected.

So the line was correct as it stood, in the sense that "free complementary" was the original text from the quoted article. The editors should have left the quote alone, or paraphras

I think the best part was that one I got the site to load the ad servers were still unable to handle the /. load. I give the /. ad-blocking services a 3/5, great ad-blocking but unfortunately it makes browsing the site a bit of a pain. Try to get that fixed by the beta and I think you will have a real winner guys.
