Google's Project Dragonfly 'Terminated' In China

An executive at Google said the company's plan to launch a censored search engine in China has been "terminated." The project was reportedly put on hold last year but rumors that it remained active persisted. From a report: "We have terminated Project Dragonfly," Google executive Karan Bhatia told the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Buzzfeed, which reported the new comments, said it was the first public confirmation that Dragonfly had ended. A spokesman for Google later confirmed to the site that Google currently had no plans to launch search in China and that no work was being done to that end.

Yeah, after that Project Veritas reveal of other wrongdoing brought it front and center, and the very weak non-denials of that, I'd be their fear of regulation is really kicking in now, and they're trying to put the best face they can on everything that might make the government more willing to put fingers in their pie.

I love it - when google denies Jen Gennia runs the project they have to "prevent another trump" and people seemed to buy that it meant she had no knowledge of said project when it was quit

How many people believe anything Google says at this point? How many years did they claim they were doing such a thing yet they were? How many times have they claimed they aren't doing things like censoring people in their search results but you can go right now and prove that is a load of crap? Google has lied time and time again even when they are under oath when evidence is right in front of them that they were doing what they denied.

There's no longer any need for Project Dragonfly. The Chinese can just use the regular version of Google, with the censorship lists slightly tweaked.
