Russia's Mail.Ru Eyes Pre-installing Software on Huawei Devices

An anonymous reader shares a report: Russian internet group Mail.Ru is in talks with China's Huawei about the possibility of having its software pre-installed on the Chinese tech giant's devices, Mail.Ru told Reuters. Mail.Ru owns Russian social networks Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki. It is developing several messenger services and has an email and browser service.

Well the first CEO of Mail.ru, Yuri Milner, acted as an intermediary for Russian state organizations, with ties to Putin, for large investments in Facebook and Twitter. Milne is also a friend of Zuckerberg and Kushner. All according to Wikipedia.

TFA has no details. Presumably this is only for phones sold in Russia, since those sites are Russian language only. Huawei did not confirm anyway.

Until we know those critical details this is nothing.

Jinping has his ego to consider. Allowing a Russian foothold in Huawei's privates isn't something he'll be thrilled about supporting. I very much doubt this idea has legs.
