Facebook Apps Now Used Monthly By More Than 3 Billion People (venturebeat.com) 12

Facebook today reported earnings for its first fiscal quarter of 2020, including revenue of $17.74 billion, and net income of $4.9 billion, compared to revenue of $15.1 billion, and net income of $2.43 billion billion in Q1 2019. Year-over-year revenue is up 17%. From a report: In a call with analysts after the close of markets today, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, "For the first time ever, there are now more than 3 billion people actively using Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, or Messenger each month." That's up from 2.99 billion people on March 31. Use of the main Facebook app grew 10% up from 2.38 billion in Q1 2019 to 2.6 billion. Daily active users are also up 11%. Facebook earnings beat analyst estimates that predicted Facebook would earn $17.5 billion in revenue and report earnings per share of $1.74. Alphabet, which also draws the majority of its revenue from advertising, also announced earnings above analysts estimates on Tuesday.

...50% of the people have an IQ of under 100.

    • Well, by definition.

I heard once, that if you tested the UK population with an IQ test that uses the average intelligence of the 70s as its basis, they would on average get no more than an IQ of 75.
Now I think, this is true for almost the entire "developed" world.

We can check... by the number of people who believe. (As opposed to observing/assuming/concluding/...)
E.g. flat earthers, or people who believe the sun revolves around the earth or is a newspaper.

That's not true - see the Flynn effect [wikipedia.org]. People continue to score higher on IQ tests, so they need to be adjusted to maintain a mean of 100. If you take today's population and have them take an old test, you'll get a mean higher than 100. Quoting directly from that Wikipedia page, "a study published in the year 2009 found that British children's average scores rose by 14 IQ points from 1942 to 2008".

  • They way the story is written suggests they cound a user of (Facebook AND Instagram AND WhatsApp AND Messenger) is counted four times.

Certainly not individuals, anymore than ants, if they were also livestock, and angrily defending mere opinions and wanting things they were made to think and want, without any contribution from them themselves.

So I say "Moo" to them. May they forever give eyeball milk, and waste their entire existences, which would otherwise be useless anyway.

All hail humanity! It had a good run. All ... one, of a geological blip equivalent.
Thank fuck it will all be over soon!

  • Really. We have no hope.
Ah well, it was a good run while it lasted.

  • Before FB took over, I remember how so many others social sites came and went. Yet now, its like nobody is trying. Perhaps its a good reason, given that people would simply ignore it and keep giving FB more data.
  • ....an awful lot of stupid people.
  • There 3 billion accounts, not 3 billion people.

    There is a *huge* difference.

Every nonzero finite dimensional inner product space has an orthonormal basis. It makes sense, when you don't think about it.
