Google said today it plans to add a new section on the Chrome Web Store where extension developers will disclose what user data they're collecting from users and what they plan to do with the information. From a report: The new section is set to go into effect on January 18, 2021, and will appear as a "Privacy practices" button on each extension's Web Store listing. To aid the process, Google has added a new section today in the Web Store dashboard where extension developers will be able to disclose what data they collect from their users and for what purposes.

They never will, because extensions are allowed to make arbitrary changes to the web pages that you are viewing even by the most very limited definition of what an extension is.

Should be promoted to FP. Much closer to the heart of the problem.
However I think if you hadn't been under pressure to FP fast, maybe you would have gone the rest of the way, into the why the google does it and then take it back to the analogous problem with Chrome extensions and Android apps, too. We know the answer is "the google collects our personal information to make money".
As that applies to the google, what we really want to know is how the google is using our information to make money. Next step to

ORLY? So the bad guys are going to voluntarily tell us the information they're collecting to do bad stuff with? I'm sure they'll tell us ALL the important stuff, right?
How about hooks in the browser that lets the users, or their plugins, find out for themselves?
