Google is testing a dark mode for desktop search, Google confirmed to The Verge. If the test has rolled out to you and your system is set to dark mode, the background of Google's search pages will be a very dark gray...
It's unclear how widely the test has been rolled out. A couple of Verge staffers had their search pages automatically switch to dark mode, and 9to5Google and some people on Twitter have seen the new dark mode, too. But Google's search pages are still white for me, even though I have dark mode turned on right now on macOS.
It's also unclear if or when dark mode for desktop search might be officially rolled out more broadly. "We're always testing new ways to improve our experience for our users, but don't have anything specific to announce right now," Google said in a statement to The Verge.

And Firefox's Dark Reader add-on works really really well. Even has a mode for OLEDs, and can switch with the day/night cycle, using multiple different ways.

But this feels like some kids heard it was cool back in the days, decided to cargo cult it, and called it "dark mode".
I just call it "normal".

(I usually go and add some color in there. Try using the underwater alien blue-green with purple and yellow highlights and just a hint of red for your coding.) :)
(And I dislike white themes, because unless they are some futurism from the 80s, it just looks cheap and fake and overused like something from Apple, or like a toilet seat.

Back in the 80s WYSIWYG became the new hotness. Word processors that looked like a sheet of paper, black text on white background instead of the classic white on black or blue (good old IBM DisplayWrite).
In the 90s PCs were getting good enough to do it too, transitioning from DOS to Windows 3 and then 95.
Nobody really stopped to think if it was a good idea or not. Wasted a lot of energy in fact, since CRTs use more power to produce white.

I started using dark mode as my eyes got worse. I don't like having a bright white light shining in my face now, much prefer light text on dark as it's less stressful on the eyes.

Here is an easy fix simply link to https://duckduckgo.com/?q=duck... [duckduckgo.com]. Dark mode, get it, really funny. By the way type duckduckgo in youtube comments let alone the link and it well be deleted 30 seconds latter, you won't notice of course unless you wait and refresh the page. Google the slimy ghost mass censors, DARK MODE, yeah, they turn the digital lights out on YOU.
