Reddit Is Quietly Rolling Out a TikTok-Like Video Feed Button On iOS 12
Reddit is the latest social media platform to roll out a TikTok-like video feed. According to TechCrunch, the discussion-based forum is "making short-form video more pronounced on its iOS app." From the report: According to Reddit, most iOS users should have a button on their app directly to the right of the search bar -- when tapped, it will show a stream of videos in a TikTok-like configuration. When presented with a video, (which shows the poster who uploaded it and the subreddit it's from), users can upvote or downvote, comment, gift an award or share it. Like TikTok, users can swipe up to see another video, feeding content from subreddits the user is subscribed to, as well as related ones. For instance, if you're subscribed to r/printmaking, you might see content from r/pottery or r/bookbinding.
The user interface of the videos isn't new -- Reddit has been experimenting with this format over the last year. But before, this manner of watching Reddit videos was only accessible by tapping on a video while scrolling through your feed -- rather than promoting discovery of other communities, the first several videos recommended would be from the same subreddit. So in other words it's what your Youtube news feed turns into once you start watching Fox "News" racist propaganda films.

Considering how long Reddit's been around and how relatively new I am to it (I dunno, 4 years or so?) this is probably old news, but in my experience the Reddit app is circling the drain. First this unavoidable RPAN thing shows up. Then a few weeks ago after a reinstall it started showing all sorts of suggested posts/subs to the point it more or less outweighed the actual subscribed content (thankfully I tracked down the offending setting just this morning).

I totally agree. I've been using Reddit off and on for years, but only started using it more this year, and only started trying to use the Reddit iOS app in the last few months... as you say the suggested post outnumber the stuff I am subscribed to, I couldn't use it for more tha

First hit the little icon thing in the upper left corner (your "snoo" I think it's called, the avatar thingy). Then Settings, then u/[your id]. Under the section "Personalized Recommendations" you'll find "Enable next-generation recommendations". Turn that off then enjoy.

P.S. Reddit app is nice in one way, those settings seem to carry over from mu iPhone automatically to my iPad.,.. which makes me think they take effect on the web also, But then why was the app so much worse at giving me a million unwanted posts to skip?

Judging by the quantity of comments in this thread is there must be quite the untapped market - we obviously need a SlaskTok app, the overlap of interest between Slashdot readers and TikTok is significant!
