Samsung Confirms Galaxy Source Code Breach

Samsung on Monday confirmed that the company recently suffered a cyberattack, but said that it doesn't anticipate any impact on its business or customers. From a report: Last week, South American hacking group Lapsus$ claimed it had stolen 190GB of confidential data, including source code, from the South Korean tech giant's servers. The group also posted snapshots of the alleged data online. Samsung has now confirmed in a statement, without naming the hacking group, that there was a security breach, but it asserted that no personal information of customers was compromised.

Isn't the Android kernel based on Linux and already open source? What did they get, the user interface? [wikipedia.org] It's still bad, but not like they have the source code to Windows 11 or anything.

This is essentially accurate. However there's a lot more software that Samsung throws on these phones which may have been purloined.

For instance the source code for Bixby. If that is in the wild there will be consequences that land on consumers (my opinion).

I would love for the sourcecode of Bixby to be released in the wild. Any copycat would be able to make it better. I understand that it has some system functions, but I think the apk will need to be signed in order to activate any system related functions.
