Love them or hate them, NFTs will soon be coming to Instagram. From a report: Speaking at SXSW, Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that digital collectibles would be arriving on Instagram "in the near term."
"We're working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term," he said. He didn't detail exactly how that would take shape, but suggested people would be able to show off their existing NFTs and potentially mint new ones. "I'm not ready to kind of announce exactly what that's going to be today. But over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment."

So, I've got a new business idea for NFTs.
We partner with an organization like MLB that is needing new viewership.
We take high quality color photos of their players in action and print the photos on the fronts of 2 inch x 3 inch paperboard NFTs.
On the backs we print their stats and other metadata about the layer and team.
We package those cards into "decks" and allow the artificial scarcity of popular players drive up the value of the NFTs printed.

That's nice, but what if we used some sort of cute, imaginary animals instead of sportsmen? I think it would cater more to the younger, tech-savvy audience of NFTs. We could give the animals hit points and special powers and have them fight against each other (note to PR department: see how much Peta ask for bribes before going ahead with this idea). And we could release rarer NFTs, that would allow the animals to magically "evolve" into bigger, more powerful version of the animals, albeit still cute so as

In 10 years we'll look back and laugh at the NFT craze of the 2020s. It will be in the same dubious class as the :CueCat.

The CueCat was an inexpensive PS2/USB barcode reader that was a decade ahead of the QR codes that replaced it. The software had privacy issues and its reliance on quasi-proprietary barcodes and paper catalogs made it very much a system with an expiration date as technology progressed...but it was an uncooked product that was simultaneously ahead of its time and a product of its time.
In 2032, zero people will be saying that about NFTs.

Technically, the concept the :CueCat was promoting, lived on. Hell, my iPhone has an automatic QR reader feature integrated into the default camera app. It was one of several ahead-of-their-time ideas (like the Netpliance i-Opener) that would ultimately succeed, but not from the company that originally introduced them.
The irony is, one of the big reasons I didn't invest early on in Bitcoin was that I assumed things would play out in a similar fashion in the cryptocurrency world. There's that old saying "

To cover up all the real problems with the FB empire. The first and foremost is advertising, it sucks on facebook now, especially when compared to google which now has much more data on users than FB. I know people that have stopped advertising on FB because they are not getting results. The second problem is in the past Zuck would just buy companies that were a threat and integrate them, this worked when everyone didn't hate FB, but I doubt they'll be able to buy their way out of competition anymore.
