Citrix-Tibco Close $17 Billion Deal, Uniting Virtualization and Enterprise Apps Vendors (crn.com) 13

Virtualization and cloud products vendor Citrix and enterprise applications vendor Tibco Software have completed their merger, valued at $16.5 billion, with new leadership calling the combined company "a new global leader in enterprise software." CRN reports: The two companies announced the deal's completion in a statement Friday. Tom Krause, who left Broadcom after the chip giant's announced acquisition of VMware to become CEO of the combined Citrix and Palo Alto, Calif.-based Tibco, called the combined company "a new global leader in enterprise software" in the statement.

"We are excited to create a new global leader in enterprise software, designed for scale and growth, through the combination of Citrix and TIBCO," Krause said. "The platform we have built will expand and deepen our relationships with our valued customers and partners, drive the future of mission-critical cloud software solutions and create long-term value for all our stakeholders." With the completion of the Citrix-Tibco deal, Krause revealed on LinkedIn that he is now CEO of Cloud Software Group (CSG), the owner of Citrix and Tibco.

Here we have an example of what corporate greed results in, companies run into the ground by clueless idiots who just want to line their own pockets.

They are not clueless idiots. They know exactly what they are doing. They are just individuals without even a shred of integrity or honor. The clueless idiots are those that hire them.

Tibco had the misfortune of CEOs that did not understand the company's market was horizontal as opposed to vertical once Vista bought them. I would have described them as clueless - but not idiots as they stripped Tibco of it's real estate assets in Silicon Valley to repay part of the sale.

You could consider them legacy now however they invented the concept of a "Message Bus" (The Information Bus COmpany) back in the early 90's then followed on with "Software As A Service". You have used their products

For me, Citrix mean Windows Terminal Server before Microsoft launched their own terminal server product in Windows 2000 I believe.

        Next, see "Trumpet Winsock" :)

        • We used Citrix at our office for quite a few years before moving to just plain RDS. Citrix had some nice management tools that you could somewhat approximate with similar PowerShell tools, but Citrix was much easier to manage. Our helpdesk loved the ability to connect to a client's remote session to help with remote problems.

The advantage to Citrix (and RDS) was the ability to set up a server with standardized software and allow clients to log in from home. This meant we only had to keep a single server-

        • And they is an idiot out there who will think borrowing billions to by it is a good idea.

To avoid crappy software that is. Now avoiding Citrix like the Plague gives you the added benefit of avoiding Tibco (whoever they are) in addition!

If you have a bank account it is probable that you have indirectly used Tibco's gear. They are mainly a java and C shop with lots of connector based middleware that enterprise use. They are/were big on Enterprise Design Patterns. "Enterprise Service Buss" and "Master Data Management" are two pattern spaces they dominated before Kafka and RabbitMQ came along.

I'd think of the merger something like this, Citrix as a means of deployment with nothing to deploy and Tibco as a payload without a means of deplo

  • The well run company is going to absorbed by the idiot run company. Almost all financed with massive borrowing from banks. Banks who are really nervous about lending now. One can only guess at the interest cost for this ass hatery. This will end poorly with lots of people losing their job unfortunately.
  • This is not surprising. In general, I can't imagine modern business without the use of digital technologies which are developing so actively now. Some time ago, I also approached the developers to get supply chain analytics software [apiko.com]. It seems to me that this is exactly what I needed to be able to analyze various actions, demand, identify risks and possible weaknesses of my business.
