Microsoft Brings DALL-E 2 To the Masses With Designer and Image Creator (techcrunch.com) 20
Microsoft is making a major investment in DALL-E 2, OpenAI's AI-powered system that generates images from text, by bringing it to first-party apps and services. During its Ignite conference this week, Microsoft announced that it's integrating DALL-E 2 with the newly announced Microsoft Designer app and Image Creator tool in Bing and Microsoft Edge. From a report: With the advent of DALL-E 2 and open source alternatives like Stable Diffusion in recent years, AI image generators have exploded in popularity. In September, OpenAI said that more than 1.5 million users were actively creating over 2 million images a day with DALL-E 2, including artists, creative directors and authors. Brands such as Stitch Fix, Nestle and Heinz have piloted DALL-E 2 for ad campaigns and other commercial use cases, while certain architectural firms have used DALL-E 2 and tools akin to it to conceptualize new buildings.

Everyone's "profiting" off open-source. Everyone's who's bought a boxed copy or downloaded has profited off open-source even if the creators never see a dime.

Perhaps we should praise, but most likely it doesn't matter. It took Google something like a month to make a better version of Dall-E 2, so the technology is not that difficult to duplicate, so no matter what anyone does, this will eventually get widespread.

Should we praise MS for making the projects more easily accessible? Or curse them for profiting off of open source, by slapping a thin MS wrapper on top of it?
You seem to be suggesting that "thin MS wrapper" is the thing that makes it "more easily accessible" so I guess the question is why is there no open source project that does that?

Ya know, the whole "let me google that for you" snub only works if the answer is obvious by the first hit in Google. The first hit leads (me at least) to a page that drones on about how awesome it is, again without answering the question.

DALL-E is, as are all the commercial versions, but the free, actual open-source projects like Stable Diffusion let you choose whether to allow nudity etc. There are also free models you can install in SD to get better fidelity of specific kinks, like if you realllllly want high-quality AI-generated naughty anime waifus or some shit.

I would think as this gets better it would be trivial to create pictures of anyone doing nearly anything.
Imagine telling this thing to show $HatedPolitician doing something horrible and it drawing it up just as you suggest. Leak this photo as a legit thing that really happened and just sit back and watch.
It also sounds like really neat tech with some wonderful applications. You could make some amazing branding logos or advertising prints. Probably could imagine up some pretty amazing scenes of battles or al

Curious how detailed you could get it. Like say you write out a really detailed description of something and read it to this tech. Interesting stuff.
I wonder who owns the copyright of the AI generated images.
I have a friend who is a self published author. Something like this would greatly help his book cover search, but there is too much uncertainty as to copyright ownership.
It will be interesting to see.
