LinkedIn Adds Verified Emails, Profile Creation Dates (krebsonsecurity.com) 9
LinkedIn is rolling out new features to combat a surge in AI-generated bot accounts, writes Brian Krebs. "Many LinkedIn profiles now display a creation date, and the company is expanding its domain validation offering, which allows users to publicly confirm that they can reply to emails at the domain of their stated current employer." From the report: LinkedIn's new "About This Profile" section -- which is visible by clicking the "More" button at the top of a profile -- includes the year the account was created, the last time the profile information was updated, and an indication of how and whether an account has been verified.
LinkedIn also said it is adding a warning to some LinkedIn messages that include high-risk content, or that try to entice the user into taking the conversation to another platform (like WeChat). "We may warn you about messages that ask you to take the conversation to another platform because that can be a sign of a scam," the company said in a blog post. "These warnings will also give you the choice to report the content without letting the sender know."

They probably think it's like cheating on your Taxes, nobody will ever notice that you deducted $100 dollars for that charitable contribution when the receipt was $10.
That is until they get called out on it.
Companies who insist on Linkedin profiles are also buying into the fallacy that what's online must somehow be truthful. I think the only truth is in alcohol.

Guess what? Most resumes are inflated like that. If you didn't get a job you were very qualified for then either they had a better one... or one that just looked good on paper. By the time they find out which, it's too late. That guy has already added them to his resume, padded his accomplishments there, and lined up another job from another employer with incompetent HR (which is probably 98% of it or better.)

not my experience at all. my entry, there, is completely real and honest. I get job offers and many jobs I have had came thru LI.
lots of fakers in tech, but lots of us are are real and the fact that real work gets done in the industry is proof that we're clearly not all making our cv up.
I never had fb or tw accounts and never will; but I need to be employed and for bay area tech, LI is useful and I do rely on that to find jobs and see what's out there.

Despite the numerous monthly invitations from former and current co-workers, I don't have a LinkedIn profile, nor a Twatter profile, nor Facebook or Instagram. I plan on keeping it that way for the rest of my life.
