France Plans To Recommend Ministers Give Up TikTok, Other Apps (bloomberg.com) 14
The French government is planning to ask cabinet ministers to avoid using TikTok and similar apps on their personal phones, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing two people with direct knowledge of the discussions. From the report: The government is mulling the guidelines in part over concerns about security with the Chinese-owned social media app, according to one of the people. They requested anonymity in order to discuss private deliberations. Social media apps such as TikTok are already banned from their professional phones. The UK banned TikTok from government phones on Thursday, citing security fears. The US Congress restricted the app on government devices last year and European Commission employees were told to delete it by March 15.

I'd imagine the US government, as a whole, couldn't really give two shits about what apps France decides to install on it's government-issued phones. Maybe the CIA cares, but that's pretty much their job.
And good heavens, France would undoubtedly tell the US government to fuck right off if "serious words" were issued about something that idiotic. Why would you possibly imagine France, of all countries, would kowtow to US wishes in something like that?

They probably want to consult by themselves what videos their opponent has published, or check who has more views or more likes. After work they go home and log onto their social network account, which they created long before being elected, like everyone else. Many modern workers carry two phones: one for personal; one for work. Is there any reason that elected officials can't do that? One phone for frivolity, one for business.
I'm watching 'Severance' on Apple TV; it's about a complete separation of personal and work life. You go home and completely, totally forget what happened at work. And vice versa. There are problems with strict compliance, and yet the idea has some appeal.
Especially if your job involves national security.
