New Zealand To Ban TikTok On Devices Linked To Parliament (cnbc.com) 14
New Zealand will ban TikTok on devices with access to the parliamentary network because of cybersecurity concerns, a government official said on Friday. CNBC reports: TikTok will be banned on all devices with access to New Zealand's parliamentary network by the end of March, said Parliamentary Service Chief Executive Rafael Gonzalez-Montero. Gonzalez-Montero, in an email to Reuters, said the decision was taken after advice from cybersecurity experts and discussions within government and with other countries.
"Based on this information the Service has determined that the risks are not acceptable in the current New Zealand Parliamentary environment," he said. Special arrangements can be made for those who require the app to do their jobs, he added.

New Zealand is part of 5 eyes, so they probably aren't allowed to. They have to give their 5 eyes partners access to everything.

So just to be clear, even though China now has the most CCTV cameras by a wide margin, and a great firewall, and a party member embedded in every company, 5 eyes is more surveilled? At most you can say "equally" and be correct within an order of magnitude.

More people with more tech produce more data, but China's been letting people have phones and encouraging them to make purchases with them, letting them have social networks, and all the same stuff other nations do so they can get more data.

But at least it's allowed only on those in a field which requires it, such as a communication role. Everyone else can't have it installed on government devices.
Which makes sense - government owned devices should only have apps approved by the government. Similar to how a phone owned by a company should only have apps approved by the company.
