Google Discontinues Pixel Pass Subscription 10

An anonymous reader shares a report: Google is discontinuing its Pixel Pass subscription service that allowed people to get a Pixel phone combined with premium services including YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, and YouTube Premium for a monthly fee. The company said on its support page that it will stop offering purchases or renewals for the Pixel Pass.

  • Android is not a moat, who could have guessed.

    • I have been a Pixel user since the 3A and I have never heard of Pixel Pass.

      So either the Pixel Pass sub is not priced right or it was never adequately marketed. You'd think that Pixel owners would be your prime audience.

      • I looked into this as a Fi customer but it was only for new subscribers - current customers were not eligible.

          /\This/\ i didn't know about it till i went to replace my pixel 4 with a 6 pro on my Fi account.. saw is as an option, and really price was fair for what you got - but then said i wasn't eligible... i've been on GoogleFI for 7+ years, sad to see them start acting like cable companies with the "new" vs. current subscribers..

      • Might have been an "only available in select areas only" thing, with you not in the select area?
      • I saw all kinds of ads for it when buying my Pixel 6 Pro. However, I don't need to pay for YouTube or whatever other bullshit that was added, so I didn't bother.

        My guess is a whole lot of people did the same calculation and the value wasn't there.

  • Why is with Google I only hear about something AFTER it has been cancelled? I swear Google Execs come up with these ideas, release them into the wild but fail to tell anybody about it. Then they cancel this same idea 6 months later because nobody uses it. Maybe the product isn't the problem Google, but the lack of marketing/awareness. I work in IT and I have had multiple generations of Google phones, going all the way back to the Nexus S days. You think if anybody knew of the "Pixel pass" it would have
