Cisco To Lay Off Thousands More in Second Job Cut This Year (reuters.com) 45

Cisco will cut thousands of jobs in a second round of layoffs this year as the U.S. networking equipment maker shifts focus to higher-growth areas, including cybersecurity and AI, Reuters reported Friday, citing sources. From the report: The number of people affected could be similar to or slightly higher than the 4,000 employees Cisco laid off in February, and will likely be announced as early as Wednesday with the company's fourth-quarter results, said the sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly.

Are just age discrimination in disguise? Lots and lots of Americans at retirement age right now. Intel I get they're trying to pump their stock in the face of that massive massive hardware bug but everywhere else sales are fine profits are higher than they've ever been and yet more and more and more layoffs on the eve of rate cuts.

It doesn't make sense unless you consider how many older workers are out there. Sure would be nice if we hadn't just gutted the ability to enforce regulations and worker protections...

...didn't help their stock price (so far).
    • So about that career development plan. While your experience was valuable on legacy products it is less expensive to train a youngster that will work many long hours. So now your performance review will take a spin on how u r part of the problems vs solutions. Common and convenient for Companies to rationalize job cuts on need to make more money. Just spin it so sounds less harsh. SEC labor regulators , change in strategy, gotta focus on growth so shoving folks out , and saying it in a way according to you
  • Who still buys Cisco products?

  • This what companies do these days in order to make sure that the top management get their annual bonuses. What happens afterward will be the problem of a new batch of top managers, who will do pretty much the same thing.
