The rumors were right: Google parent Alphabet has agreed to buy cyber security start-up Wiz for $32 billion, the biggest acquisition in the search group's history. From the report: Alphabet held talks over a $23 billion acquisition of Wiz last year, although the negotiations collapsed after some of the cyber security company's directors and investors became worried about antitrust hurdles.
The deal, which will rank as the biggest deal of the year so far, was announced on Tuesday morning. It will probably still face scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission under President Donald Trump, whose new chair Andrew Ferguson has maintained guidelines giving the agency the ability to block large deals used by his predecessor Lina Khan.

They also have a marketing team to match their development team.
Combining decent engineering, a flashy dashboard, and a solid marketing team, they've been growing very quickly.
They aren't worth $32 Billion, but Google is now full of managers as decisionmakers who don't know that.

We started running Wiz in our pipelines recently. I haven't seen the dashboard yet, since we have Snyk and a bunch of other scanning tools to keep up with.

A deal of this magnitude by a company currently not only under antitrust investigation but under threat of breakup would I suspect raise eyebrows in regulatory bodies everywhere.
That said it's not like regulatory bodies in the USA actually have any power anymore, but I wonder what some overseas regulators will say about this.

It may not matter what Trump thinks. The problems with republicans shitting the bed legally is they need to sleep in it, and with Chevron overturned regulatory agencies have significantly less ... agency. (Yeah I'm just a kid away from being a certified dad).

The FTC is anti-tech, too [yahoo.com], or rather against the large tech companies.

Trump really doesn't like those. He might be ok with Twitter now, I don't know.

Not just under investigation, but already ruled (In Aug 2024) to be in violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act by illegally monopolizing the search engine and search advertising markets, most notably on Android devices, as well as with Apple and mobile carriers in United States v. Google LLC (2020).
