xAI's Grok 3 Comes To Microsoft Azure (techcrunch.com) 11

An anonymous reader quotes a report from TechCrunch: Microsoft on Monday became one of the first hyperscalers to provide managed access to Grok, the AI model developed by billionaire Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI. Available through Microsoft's Azure AI Foundry platform, Grok -- specifically Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini -- will "have all the service-level agreements Azure customers expect from any Microsoft product," says Microsoft. They'll also be billed directly by Microsoft, as is the case with the other models hosted in Azure AI Foundry. [...] The Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini models in Azure AI Foundry are decidedly more locked down than the Grok models on X. They also come with additional data integration, customization, and governance capabilities not necessarily offered by xAI through its API.

As much as I hate to give Microsoft credit, it's a smart move to bring in grok.

The cynical side of me thinks Microsoft doesn't care who's AI system they integrate as long as corporate customers pay for it.

Does this mean the prompts you give it have prompt-engineering behind it? If so screw that. We build a few big bad servers from Lenovo to run Oolama 405 at 16bit quant in GPUs. was 6 figures, but we use it extensively internally. One of our customers does not allow data to leave (biotech research).

    • Couldn't agree more. This explains why they were up today. I may have been wrong in selling MSFT.

I don't know with the bad press going around about grok spreading white supremacist and hell Neo-Nazi talking points I could see that being a problem.

Then again Zuckerberg's AI is too left wing for his liking and he's trying to figure out how to fix that.

As the old joke goes though we already has a well-known liberal bias. I remember that Twitter back in the day could had problems with banning Republican congressman accounts because they were using the same dog whistles that the Neo-Nazi accounts were so they couldn't use automatic moderation to cut back on the nazis. They had to manually ban the Nazis or they would pick up the Republicans in the crossfire.

Of course that says a lot about the Republicans in the US House of Representatives and Senate...

But basically AI llms are having the same problem where the corporate owners don't like how left wing they are. And we're not even talking about Commie pinko stuff we're talking about if you ask them if a single pair of healthcare system is superior to the American Private health care system they will answer truthfully. And we can't have that.

I mean this is Facebook and twitter. Truth has no place there.

If only they'd offer "enterprise grade"

As in "we understand that if we steal your data we will lose both your business and a lawsuit"

The subject says it all. Grok is trained on many datasets, but X is clearly one of them and it shows.
  • xAI is based in Memphis TN and is powering itself via dirty turbines that pollute beyond EPA standards. Of course they are using loopholes to get around the EPA.

Gas-powered turbines produce pollutants, including nitrogen oxides, which can cause asthma attacks and chest pain and, in the longer-term, is linked to decreased lung function and premature death. They also generate the carcinogen formaldehyde and tiny air pollution particles so small they can pass through lungs into people’s bloodstream. It
