Grand Theft Auto 6 Delayed Again Until November 2026 (kotaku.com) 72

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI won't launch in May of next year as planned. Kotaku: The highly anticipated sequel is now set to arrive in November 2026. On Thursday, Rockstar announced on social media that the long-awaited next entry in its open-world blockbuster franchise would need a bit more time, delaying the game an additional six months from May to November 19, 2026. Rockstar said "these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."

Grand Theft Auto 6 Delayed Again Until November 2026

  • I wish this game were available for AppleTV.

  • PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are what show as platforms for this game.

If I were going to buy one so that I can play this game, which is the better choice? Which one is newer?

FWIW, it is unlikely that I would buy any other games for it anytime soon, other than something for my 9 year old, so I can give him the whole thing as a Christmas present. Are the old Baulder's Gate games available for these platforms, either in the old format or redesigned for these platforms?

Out of the box, the Xbox Series X is slightly better hardware than the regular PS5. it's not really enough to matter, especially on a mutliplatform game, but since you asked...

That said, Sony offers the PS5 Pro, a higher spec version of the console that Microsoft does not offer an equivalent of. So if price is no object, the PS5 Pro is expected to be the best platform to play it on.

      • Ok. PS5 Pro it is.

        Thanks!

The problem for Microsoft this generation is their own policies have hampered games on the X. Microsoft requires any games developed for the X must have feature parity with games on the S. However, the S has weaker hardware than the PS5. In some cases like Baldur's Gate 3, the Xbox launch was delayed as they had development issues on the S that was only alleviated when Microsoft waived that specific requirement. Many other game developers simply optimized their games for the S instead of optimizing for bot

        • Good to know! Thanks for posting.

So, I think I've convinced myself to go ahead and do this as a Christmas present. Kid will be pleased. Researching it:

          PS5 Pro
          Disc drive for it

          GTA6
          Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance

We have a dual sense controller that we bought for the AppleTV, so that gives us a second one. And I've got a 98" 4K TV to connect this thing to.

It would be nice to connect it to our second TV instead of the main one, but that's not a 4K TV so I don't think I want to do that, as convenient as it would b

      • PS5 if only for the incredible controller.

    • Just wait for it to come to PC. You've already waited this long.
      • Then I would have to buy a PC, which is not something I'm interest in. Among other things, that would add a lot of clutter in the TV room, which wouldn't be very nice.

        • Sorry, I didn't think there was anyone on Slashdot that didn't already have a computer.

Obviously you do what you want, but you can have a computer with exactly the same amount of clutter as a PlayStation or Xbox, and it would be much more useful - much wider variety of games (including an extensive backlog, and emulation) to play for cheaper or free, no need to buy a whole new one and new controllers and etc. when GTA for the next generation of consoles eventually comes along, etc.
          • Oh also, it's completely possible to stream games from one room to another nowadays. You could put something small like a RaspberryPi - which is easy to hide or even put on the back of a TV - in the TV room and have the computer that runs GTA6 in another room. I do this to play games that my SteamDeck isn't powerful enough to run, in my living room. Obviously you'd have to also buy a RasberryPi or something, but again it's more useful.
            • Then I would have to buy a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and whatever else, and find a place to put all THAT stuff, none of which I have room for. I also don't want to have to keep up with maintaining another machine, so forth and so on. I just don't see any advantage to all of that vs just buying the thing that hooks up to the TV and playing games on it.

If I had to go through all that headache, I wouldn't bother with it at all.

          • I have computers, just not a "PC", which generally refers to a Windows machine.....or possibly a Linux machine, I guess.

For my purpose here, I just want something I can easily hook up to my TV. It just needs to play a few games, nothing else.

    • Not on PC? That's what I'll wait for.
    • Well, motherfucker!!

I just realized his delay is until November 2026, not 2025.

I'll be dead by then ):

Grand Theft Auto 6, or Duke Nukem Forever? At this point, I'm wondering if Rockstar is trying to take the crown for the most delayed PC game of all time.

    • I'm still waiting on Half-Life 3.

DNF wasn't even finished even when it was taken over by another company.

Dude it's barely been 9 years yet. They aren't even 2/3rds of the way to the record. Right now they're struggling to get above spot number 5.

"...and to counteract our loss of productivity as we fire anyone who was trying to unionize."

  • "Grand Theft Auto Forever"

    • That's going to be the name of the new GTA6-associated online mode! Encompassing Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas.
  • Release it early, test in prod, patch at leisure.

Early testing show that the cars were too easy to drive. "Make them more boat-like!" was the note that came from management.

Put in stickshifts. With dog box transmissions.

  • since this happens with every one of their releases, and for that matter with everyone's releases these days (at least everyone "too big to fail") this is p much just par for the course... they'll delay it a third time as well much closer to launch, but not likely to delay a fourth time. It's probably literally part of their marketing cycle at this point, they'd be fools not to include it because it's so predictable and reliable.

It's kinda just building hype the littledick way.

  • When you fire a bunch of your employees to union bust (under the guise of "leaking" info) of course your product is going to be delayed.

Too many games are relrased with bugs that do a lot of damage to the games reputation. If people are asking why did i spend $50-$100 on this, there wont be a GTA 7. If GTA V truly sold 9.5 billion since 2013, then GTA 6 is worth some extra care unlike what game developers have done to so many franchises trying to score a quick buck.
    • You're assuming they are doing this to sort out bugs rather than just dealing with the delay caused by their union busting tactics that involved firing a shitton of their staff recently.
