Trump Organization's $499 Smartphone Delayed Again, Now Until the End of January (independent.co.uk) 85

Last June the Trump organization announced sales of a $499 "T1" smartphone with a gold-colored case. But though they originally were scheduled for release in August, this week a customer service representative for the wireless carrier told CBS News the device will be pushed back again, now until the end of January, "attributing the delay to the recent U.S. government shutdown."

Some context from The Independent: Shortly after the phone was first announced, language describing it as "Made in the USA" was removed from its official website with the vague claim that the devices are "brought to life" in the United States posted in its place... Other information about the phone has also changed or been removed since its first unveiling, The Verge has reported. Trump Mobile initially indicated the T1's screen measured 6.78 inches, but now claims it is 6.25 inches. It also said the phone had 12GB of RAM; however, that claim has now also disappeared.

As the wait for the T1 continues, Trump Mobile has begun offering refurbished Samsung S23s, S24s, and Apple iPhone 15s and 16s for sale on its site, which appear to have no specific Trump branding and are priced considerably higher than customers might pay elsewhere.

Only if it runs on coal or Venezuela oil. I do not need a phone with a rechargeable battery.

I'm assuming that the joke is that those things are even less likely to happen than Trump's phone finally materializing?

The irony is, getting a Chinese OEM to slap your branding on their product is super easy. The hang up is most likely Trump's insistence that some portion of the final assembly take place in the USA.

I mean it's apparently the cheapest of the cheap mediatek phones so yeah.

Honestly this is such a small potatoes compared to the literally billions in pardons Trump sold or the billions in crypto...

The fact that the United States president is openly selling pardons and we are all just letting it happen because half of us like that he is sticking at the somebody we don't like, whoever that's somebody is this week, I mean Jesus fucking Christ.

Right now if you're committing Financial crimes you can do it with impunity. That means somebody can steal your retirement and your life savings and they can just get away with it. All they have to do is take a few million of the money they stole from you and give it to Donald Trump and they are Scott free. If they get State charges there might be a problem but Trump is using his veto power to threaten states that go after criminals who bribed him.

Once again because old people dominate our politics they just do not give a shit because they know they're going to be dead before the worst of all of this bites them in the ass.

A geriocracy is a real mess. Having a government and a society run by people who are close to death really screws everything up because they have absolutely no thought to the Future and they're bitter and angry from old age.

That said voter suppression is the primary reason Trump won his second term. Approximately 7 million Americans tried to vote and couldn't. A combination of illegal challenges to signatures and voter registrations and multi-hour wait times to vote in swing States is what made Trump president.

The issue I have with is that a lot of the sales pitch was a bald-faced lie that anyone with a grade-school education and life experience should have seen through. For example, a president does not have a "grocery price" knob in the oval office that he can just turn down on day one. 18. Eric has crypt company merging with another so they’ll be listed on Nasdaq.

        26. The el Bunko Wireless Company.
        27. The el BunkoRX company, they do deals with drug companies to lower prices, for which they profit.
        28. The new round of watches and other tat he sells from the Oval Office.
        29. $240 Million he’s demanding from the Injustice Dept. for calling him out on his crimes and attempting to prosecute them.
        30. Grifting off the Epstein files telling his Maggots he needs their money to defend himself.
        31. Deal with Pakistan’s crypto-bros to dump money into his own crypto-crap.
        32. Bailing out Argentina and Milei because if Argentina goes much further south, el Bunko and Scott Bessent lose their “investment” in the cypto-crap Milei was promoting until it tanked.

All of his tat is made in China. And he is hawking it now from the Oval Orifice.

This has got to be the most corrupt government in the history of the world, and he doesn't even try to hide it. The republican party has spent the last 50 years quietly installing far-right yes-men in positions of administrative leadership, all with the intent to undo all the progress we have made as a nation because rich white men are butt-hurt about finally having to share. It's sad to see the world's most successful democracy be torn apart by a bunch of old, greedy, white men who hate everyone who doesn't look like them or have as much wealth as them.

The Congress should do something about all this corruption. It's not Congress it's the Republican party. The Democrats are ready to impeach and remove Trump for the billions in pardons he sold alone let alone the crypto bribes. They would also be happy to impeach him for illegally invading Venezuela and murdering Venezuelan fishermen.

The holdup is that the Republican party won't impeach Trump because party before country.

But every single post I see complains about Congress not the republicans in Congress protecting Trump.

This isn't a both sides issue. This is a Republican issue. But we can't hold the Republican party accountable because we are so used to being angry at politicians as a group
