Amazon Offers Free Credits For Startups To Use AI Models Including Anthropic (reuters.com) 9

AWS has expanded its free credits program for startups to cover the costs of using major AI models. From a report: In a move to attract startup customers, Amazon now allows its cloud credits to cover the use of models from other providers including Anthropic, Meta, Mistral AI, and Cohere. "This is another gift that we're making back to the startup ecosystem, in exchange for what we hope is startups continue to choose AWS as their first stop," said Howard Wright, vice president and global head of startups at AWS.

[...] As part of the deal, Anthropic will use AWS as its primary cloud provider, and Trainium and Inferentia chips to build and train its models. Wright said Amazon's free credit will contribute to revenue of Anthropic, one of the most popular models on Bedrock.

Would this be the same Amazon that, when they see you have a successful Amazon business that they are profiting off of, they take it a step further and compete with you directly, because they want all the money?

Why would anybody do business with people like that? Wouldn't they do the same thing with your new AI invention?

Anybody who believes Amazon is giving anything away for free deserves what they will ultimately get. Bezos is a predatory parasite, and all the money in the world won't be enough to satisfy him.

I would think the trade is pretty surface-level in this case. They're tapping whatever models they're handing credits out for for ad data. Not to mention the sheer joygasms these businesses now have from the mere thought of collecting more data whether they can use it or not. I swear, if they knew the amount of sheer out-of-the-brain data I've collected on my writing laptop in research and output, they'd likely die of some weird over-extended version of priapism on the spot. There's some truly odd fetishiza

      • They are building industry knowhow how to use something other than CUDA too. You need to get the companies to ignore the wailing of the lazy programmers.

    • That'd be the "misanthropic" service then.

  • Free AWS Heroin! Get it now!
  • Sure, my startup could use from free AWS compute credits. TFA only mentions the Y-Combinator cohort getting the free credits.

  • Does this type of thing appeal - to anyone?

Start now for free and when you are heavily locked-in, the price will become astronomical, little fishie :-)
