The Register's ruminations on the 615

The Register is now claiming that Microsoft killed the 615, the Power PC with x86 logic, through refusing to support it. Ed: I doubt this is the full story. First, I have heard from engineers who worked on Power PC chips that the 615 was too complex and big to sell well (lots of silicon, lots of debug effort). Secondly, MacOS would have been an OS of choice for such a processor. Yes, some effort would be needed to get Windows running in a "Windows Box" -- but with its OS/2 experience, IBM could have done it (and thus sell chips).
