Mozilla Developer Network Launches a YouTube Channel (youtube.com) 20

An anonymous reader writes: The Mozilla Developer Network just launched their own video channel on YouTube this week. There's currently seven videos, offering tutorials like "The Secret Button to get Three Panels of Developer Tools" and "Coding a Dark Mode for your web site."

And tweets from a Mozilla Community Lead suggest it may soon feature something from the View Source Conference in Amsterdam.

  • Work on the BROWSER.

    Fix the MANY OPEN BUGS.

Don't spend donation money on BULLSHIT.

    • Yeah ... Just make it do shit. Don't actually document how to use the features! What a waste of time and resources!

It should do LESS shit, and most of the shit it does that isn't directly related to browsing should be moved into add-ons, like they said when they created Firefox in the first place. That was many years before they blew US$20M on Pocket, which nobody wanted or asked for, and forced it on us.

        • Wrong. These modes are useful for the advanced user, need to be developed anyway, and should not be "add ons."

Hey, the last thing an open-source browser ecosystem needs is a strong developer community. That'll never attract useful patches.

They had better re-assign their video editor to cleaning up reference counting code or I'm not donating any more!

        • I feel like my donation got wasted already with 57
        • You likely realize we agree, but for those with a broken sarcasm detector those saying this is a "waste of resources" don't know how important information accompanying the actual code is, and also evidently have no idea how little it costs to make and post a Youtube video. These videos are a good thing indeed.

But its for the users to see the results of all that spending as a video.
  • Mozilla's strong developer documentation was one of their greatest strengths, but it had fallen by the wayside. I'd love to see it get back up to snuff.
  • Without explanation, Mozilla has removed the Dissenter extension from addons.mozilla.org, a web store which ostensibly exists to allow Mozilla users to safely download extensions. "AMO" is also Mozilla's mechanism for keeping users safe with security updates to extensions.

Repeated calls for Mozilla to answer for its censorship have gone unanswered [mozilla.org]. Instead, Mozilla merely mimics the actions of Google, which appear to be political targeting of the extension authors. This kind of Internet bullying is in vi

  • Did anyone else notice anything about the video thumbnails on their channel? In this age of political correctness, someone clearly didn't think this through.
  • Not a redesign of MDN.
w3schools has the better layout which is why I still use it.
