Mark Cuban Sells Sports-Technology Company To Dodgers Owners (bloomberg.com) 6
Billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is selling one of his sports-technology investments to the owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers. From a report: Atrium Sports, a technology company backed by Todd Boehly and other Dodgers owners, has acquired data and video analytics company Synergy Sports Technology, in which Cuban is the biggest investor, the companies said Monday. Synergy provides its analytics tools to a number of National Basketball Association franchises, as well as Major League Baseball and college basketball and baseball clubs. Boehly is chairman of Eldridge Industries, which made the lead investment in the Synergy transaction. Elysian Park Ventures, which includes Boehly and fellow Dodgers owners Mark Walter, Magic Johnson and Peter Guber, also invested. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but a person familiar with the transaction said the total purchase price was about $90 million.

and Mark Cuban got rich the old-fashioned nerd way: started a bullshit company and then sold it to Yahoo for $6 Billion.
Isn't that how most of the "sharks" made it besides Barbara (real estate) and Lori (HSN/QVC)? Just shows how success in this country is more about timing and luck than anything else-they (almost) all got rich during the dot com boom.

Success in business is all about luck and timing. You can build the most efficient buggy whips today, but you won't be successful because the market is small. Likewise, you can be running a stable business and decide to expand and grow, only to have a recession hit hard enough that you have to shut your doors.

Analytics is/has ruined MLB. It's basically 100% responsible for the increasingly slow pace of games. Cue all the sports haters, but there was a time where MLB was fun to watch for fans. Now it's unbearable.
