Social Networks It's funny. Laugh. The Matrix

Bizarre 'Big Tech'/Matrix Cartoon Used to Mock San Francisco's Football Team (sfgate.com) 29

The social media team for a Minnesota football team playing against San Francisco's 49ers just incorporated "big tech" into its online trash talk, reports the San Francisco Chronicle's SFGate site. They call the resulting video "incredibly weird." The video in question depicts a time-lapse of [San Francisco's] Levi's stadium with two cartoon characters in the foreground that are basically team helmets with arms and legs. The 49ers character says "Welcome... to Silicon Valley" and we're then suddenly in the Matrix (?). The 49ers character pulls out a space gun that says "Big Tech" on it and starts shooting tech company logos at the Vikings character.

After slow-motion dodging Twitter, Facebook, Apple, Google Chrome, Instagram, What's App, and Uber logos a la Neo, the Viking character jump kicks the 49ers character.

The whole thing is as odd as it sounds, and even users on Reddit struggled to understand it.

The Reddit post attracted over 2,100 upvotes and 253 comments (including "Unsportsmanlike conduct, kicking opponent in the head. 15 yards penalty.")

The video has now been viewed 117,162 times over the last 18 hours -- and attracted 27,827 likes.

The SF team obviously is backed by big tech and big tech pushes the SF team in social media. Minnesota says that social media and big tech backing won't help the SF team win because just like Neo, they've figured out how to work the matrix. The the Minnesota team will dominate both in social media and most importantly, in the actual football game.

We're talking about the Vikings, right?

When cephalopods were shown the movie, they were also reported to display a look of confusion, before plopping back in the water.

  • "The social media team for a Minnesota football team playing against San Francisco's 49ers" does anything exist outside the bubble for these people?

    Just my 2 cents ;)
  • Because there are so many and we want to be careful not to tar them all with the same brush.

  • I thought it was a cute funny video. The Minnesota Viking are gonna win too. "A Minnesota team".. geesh as if there was just so many.

If it wasn't for San Fran and SV, I may actually still be a fan of the 49ers. They were looking awesome for a while there, but their defense has been sliding the past few weeks and there offense was never that impressive in the first place.

If they some how get past this round, I seriously doubt they will get past any other team.

P.s. Then again, look at Houston. How did that ha

Because of some key injuries. Understanding why football teams win or lose is very dependent on understand who is injured and who is not.

    • The Minnesota Viking are gonna win too.

With 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the score is San Francisco 49ers 27, Minnesota Vikings 10. Unless some mind-boggling series of events plays out, the Vikings will not win.

    • And in retrospect, it's easy to see that the 49ers defensive players who returned from injury made a difference. The real challenge will be Baltimore. Time for revenge.

    American football.

Seriously, if you can understand the state-side version of football rarely played with a foot (a.k.a rugby and its derivatives), then surely you can understand silly movie meme themes.

It's called football because it's played on foot (as opposed to polo, which would logically be "horseball"). Association football (soccer), rugby games, gridiron games (US/Canadian football), Australian/Gaelic football, etc. are all legitimately "football".

(Posting from Australia, where "football" refers to different games depending on the state. In NSW, "football" or "footy" means rugby league, and "rugby" means rugby union, and "AFL" means Australian rules football. In Victoria, "football" or "footy" m
