Slack is down on the first full work day of 2021. From a report: The company said Monday morning "customers may have trouble loading channels or connecting to Slack at this time. Our team is investigating and we will follow up with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for any disruption caused." The company is reporting issues with connecting to the service and messaging.

The last time I looked they had only 10-15 million users and only half of those were paying subs. I guess that's massive if you're one of their remaining subs.

It is absolutely relative. Just like basically every other service outage. I don't use Microsoft Azure, but I'll bet if they had a big outage, Azure customers would probably care and we'd see a news article about that too.
Just because it doesn't directly affect you, doesn't mean it isn't a pretty big fuckup if 10-15 million people can't use something they depend on, and a significant fraction are paying for.

or we could say 750,000 organizations use Slack, and 7500 have a software stack that uses slack, that's a lot.
My employer uses it, has over a billion in revenue per year

I'd argue this shows 2021 is off to a great start. Certainly productivity took a huge jump.

Mobile client maybe works? (Score:2)
When I logged on and tried to post this morning, the desktop client would not connect at all - but I was able to post a message on Slack via my phone.
The interesting thing is, I even saw just my one message appear on my desktop Slack that was still trying to connect... maybe the two slack instances communicated locally and nothing really made it to the server. The mobile client never said it failed to send though, which it has at other times.

Slack is the text chat platform who sought to beat Microsoft at building the worst collaboration option and was largely successful.
Confusingly they focused on text-only features and are still worse at text-only chat than most others.
