Amazon Says Government Demands For User Data Spiked By 800% in 2020 (techcrunch.com) 31
New transparency figures released by Amazon show the company responded to a record number of government data demands in the last six months of 2020. From a report: The new figures land in the company's bi-annual transparency report published to Amazon's website over the weekend. Amazon said it processed 27,664 government demands for user data in the last six months of 2020, up from 3,222 data demands in the first six months of the year, an increase of close to 800%. That user data includes shopping searches and data from its Echo, Fire, and Ring devices. The new report presents the data differently from previous transparency disclosures. Amazon now breaks down the top requesting countries. U.S. authorities historically made up the bulk of the overall data demands Amazon receives, but this latest report shows Germany with 42% of all requests, followed by Spain with 18%, and Italy and the U.S. with 11% share each. But the report also removes the breakdown by legal process, and now only differentiates between the requests it gets for user's content and for non-content. Amazon said it handed over user content data in 52 cases. For its Amazon Web Services cloud business, which it reports separately, Amazon said it processed 523 data demands, with 75% of all requests made by U.S. authorities, and Amazon turned over user's content in 15 cases.

Nope. There have been many attempts to put an set of intellectual underpinnings beneath conservatism, and this is one, but no, it is not at all generally accepted. "Conservatism" means (and for as long has anyone can remember has meant) a desire to return to an imagined ideal social structure of the past.

It upsets the two party de-facto system :-) Sure, party A is happy that you agree with half of their stances but they're mad that you agree with half of party B's stances. We can't have national unity and cooperation if everyone just goes off and has their own independent view of things!

The two-party system is a direct consequence of winner-take-all plurality voting (confusingly, usually called "first past the post"). Third parties get squeezed out. Duvager's law.
Political polarization is also a side effect of winner-take-all plurality voting, but today's polarization is so extreme that it seems way beyond just that as a cause.

"Economic liberalism" is essentially a stance that favors the free market, private property, and private means of production. That is, essentially what the US Republican Party has been all about for decades. This word "economic liberalism" phrase confuses a lot of people who think it is about a more modern American definition of "liberal". Names in America are weird, because they're used as labels to define us versus them and so the meanings get murky and change often.

National Review long ago stopped being central to conservatism. They are, as you point out, very concerned with economic issues. But conservatism in Ameica no longer is; it is much more concerned with social issues.
And I'm stuck with nostalgia. I guess I'm sort of centrist, I have been Republican and Democrat in the past and now I'm not aligned with any party. But I do miss the days of William F Buckly, George Will,etc (yes, George Will is still around and still active but somewhat ignored by Republicans).
