Aha, so this switches off the "calling home" feature.
Another reason why they want you to use Edge.

Clickbait title: "Microsoft Hates it When You Use This One Weird Trick to Improve File Explorer Performance"
  • Ever since Windows 10's File Explorer with its pretty progress graphs doing mass operations like copying, deleting or moving thousands of files can take five minutes to "calculate" the size of the task before even starting, finishing the actual work in seconds.

If someone told you that Windows would run faster if you stick your finger in your ass would you?

Seems like a full screen program might get higher priority than when you have multiple windows showing. Or use different optimizations in GDI called? Old software uses old (unoptimized forgotten) API's.

There's nothing old about windows file explorer. It's received quite extensive re-writes since MS got a hardon for touch interfaces. Even thumbnail storage changed which is why accessing a shared drive with windows 7, previewing thumbs, and then trying to do it on Windows 11 causes it to glitch out and re-build the thumbnails.

      • One thing MS is great with is backwards compatibility. So I can now think of at least 5 different ways to get a thumbnail.
  • Whether it loads fast or loads slow, it's still a load.

Who uses Windows File Explorer these days?

Theres plenty of better alternatives, some shareware , some free.

I use Directory Opus , and have done since before i got a PC

Bug? The editor apparently misspelled "Easter Egg".

  • Are there any good alternatives to File Explorer? A few years ago, I tried a dozen candidates, and all lacked at least one function that's available in Explorer.
