PlayStation 5 Cloud Streaming Launches This Month (videogameschronicle.com) 11

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced plans to launch cloud streaming for PlayStation 5 this month. From a report: The feature, which will be available to PlayStation Plus Premium members, will receive a staggered rollout. Sony is targeting an October 17 launch for Japan, October 23 for Europe and October 30 for North America. "Select PS5 games will be available for streaming, and we're planning to have hundreds of PS5 titles to support this new benefit," said Hideaki Nishino, SIE's senior VP of platform experience.

Supported titles will include Game Catalogue offerings like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Mortal Kombat 11 and Saints Row IV. Some PS5 digital titles that players own will be available for streaming too including Resident Evil 4, Dead Island 2, Genshin Impact, Fall Guys and Fortnite. Game Trials for PS5 titles like Hogwarts Legacy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Calisto Protocol will also be available. Sony said DLC and in-game purchases will be available for PS5 game streaming too.

    • You can buy either edition, but I thought they were only streaming the PS4 versions?

    • I've been cloud streaming PS5 games through my PSN subscription for at least a year.

Got examples of actual PS5 games being streamed? As far as I was aware there are currently zero PS5 exclusives being streamed on PSN, and all "PS5" games that are being streamed are the PS4 last gen equivalents which in some cases have a significantly lower visual quality.

Now that being said for many games in the catalogue it doesn't matter much. Unless you're playing something like The Witcher 3 where the the "nextgen update" has had a huge visual overhaul including raytracing, the reality is much of the c

  • Does this require a PS5 to begin with? Because if it does, it makes no sense to me. If it doesn't, then what does it run on? Shouldn't there be a list of supported platforms or hardware?

    • No. PS5, PS4 and PC. The story here is they are adding next gen PS5 games to their existing PSN streaming service which previously offered PS4 versions of the games only unless you actually owned a PS5.

  • There's no benefit to this. They're hoping to cash in on people who have enough money for the services but not enough smarts to look at their cost of entertainment over a year or two.

You provide them all the control, over all the content, what you can play, can't play, how they change it, etc, and pay them monthly. Their biggest regret is people purchased games on disk or that are stand alone, that people enjoy when they feel like playing games for a little bit, they can pop in a five+ year old game and jus

The cost of PS Plus is less than the cost of 2 AAA games. If you play more than 2 AAA games in a year and you have the so called "smarts" then it would actually be beneficial to you to switch to PS Plus instead purely for entertainment reasons. The reasons to not switch would be a desire to have some form of ownership.

Again define what you want from your gaming experience. Ownership of something, or entertainment. From an entertainment point of view are you not entertained playing a game?

      • I agree. It bothers me paying for games that I don't own, but...

I've got a PS4 pro, and last year I finally decided to give PS+ Premium a shot. As I see it their game library has all the same problems as streaming but I decided that, heck, so do brick-and-mortar book libraries, and I get plenty of mileage from them. And I've ended up getting far more enjoyment out of my PS4 as a result.

Not even just AAA games, there've been several games that looked interesting enough to give a quick try for something dif

I own over 500 games, some are from bundles, etc. I don't play them all, but I've paid for them, and they're available to me for the foreseeable future without paying extra. Mostly in steam, my cost per hour of entertainment is about 17 cents per hour. So let's assume I know what I'm talking about.

You're bringing up ownership as everyone likes to poo poo the idea of 'owning' things these days. As if it's the merits of ownership / control like some sort of historically terrible thing that's happened. It's no
