Google plans to begin assembling its Pixel smartphone lineup in India, a company executive said, becoming the latest tech giant to bet on the South Asian market for devices manufacturing. From a report: The company intends to start the local manufacturing with the current lineup -- both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro -- in India and expects to ship the India-made batch starting next year, Rick Osterloh, Senior VP of Devices and Services at Google, shared at the company's annual India event Thursday. India is a key overseas market for Google, which identifies the world's most populous nation as its largest for many of its services including Android, Google Search, YouTube by user count. Thursday's announcement follows Google, which has committed to invest over $10 billion in country over the the next few years, recently partnering with HP to manufacture Chromebook laptops in India.

India is essentially an enemy of the US state with out actually declaring it so. So, go ahead corporate whores, throw your money at a country who's intent is the downfall of the US. The only way to return prosperity to the US is to return manufacturing jobs here.

BRICS is more of a meme than a real, tangible alliance, especially considering the problems SA is going through as well as Brazil and India not really being against the US in any real tangible way and you're still left with just the R and the C.

India refusing to criticize is also different than India supporting Russia's war effort.
That's not to say there are problems with Modi's religious fundamentalism or whatever he is doing but it's in both the US and India's interests to move economic relations forward.

The reason India isn't criticizing Russia is that they buy oil from Russia, and help their war machine, then relabel that oil and sell to the rest of the world, thus avoiding the embargo.

I disagree with much of what India's government does, BUT... the job of the government is to look out for the interests of it's people.
Not speaking out against Russia is in India's best interests. So they don't.
Being part of BRICS is in India's best interests. So they are.
Forcing corporations to manufacture in India in order to sell to Indians is in India's best interests. So they do.
It is one of the big failings of our government that we care too much about everyone else and not enough about our own peo

India is fed by Russian fertilizer. Even if the US was able step in, there is no chance in hell they could or would do it at prices India is able to pay. Where is India supposed to go without Russia? There is nowhere to go. How are they supposed to feed their 1.4B people? They openly pledge allegiance to China and sabotage everything to favor China. They create labor strife, it takes very few miscreants to savor the investment and sow Fear Uncertainty and Doubt about investments. The Foxconn factory near Chennai, India constantly gets in the news about labor stoppage, strikes, managers being gheraoed (ghero is a hindi origin word, meaning encriclement) in the factory.
So, dont count China out. They have been sabotaging foreign direct investment going to India for several decades, and they are not going to stop now.

You've hit the nail on the head. The cost of labor a fraction of both China and Vietnam, it neatly sidesteps the risk of sanctions or restrictions related to Taiwan, and it gives Google leverage in regard to government procurement in a very large market.
