Google Podcasts Service Shuts Down in the US Next Week

U.S. users have just a few more days to make the transition from Google Podcasts as the company moves forward with the process of discontinuing the service globally. From a report: Google is currently sending in-app notifications to users in the U.S. that starting April 2nd they will no longer be able to use Google Podcasts and is recommending to export subscriptions to YouTube Music. The Google Podcasts streaming service launched six years ago. It's app has more than 500 million downloads on Google Play and apart from offering a large selection of podcasts it also allows subscribing to favorite channels, downloading and playing on various devices. The service integrates with Google's ecosystem, providing users with personalized recommendations based on interests, listening history, and preferences.

Nah, they won't go outta business. IBM and M$ have been operating in the same way for even longer via "embrace and extend" or "buy and shut down". There is even a Simpson's episode [youtube.com] about it. For one, they unfortunately mint money in a few of their businesses (AdWords mostly, IIRC). Secondly, to quote Iron Maiden "Only the good die young, only evil seems to live forever." They also cannot possibly die until they spread their filthy useless Oauth2 crap to every corner of IT.

One thing (and only really one thing) that ms does well is product support. they have dozens of products. hardly ever kills any of them. Same with IBM. Only Google manages to kill so many services and products, i am surprised anyone will do any business with them. They had over 10 different chat offerings between 2005 and present. Almost all killed, and hardly any of them even interoperated. Google is run like a drunk ADHD sufferer with bad credit is in charge.

No. 99% gets superseded 2 years later. Google is still offering podcasts, just with a different service / app, one that you can actively export your subscriptions from one to the other.

All of big tech has this problem. Its caused by company politics. You get more promotions and raises for launching new products than you do for maintaining them.
