Google Search Ending 'Notes' Experiment

Google is discontinuing its experimental Notes feature in Search Labs, the company confirmed on Wednesday. The feature, launched in November, allowed users to add comments and tips to search results and Discover content. It aimed to create a community-driven platform within Google's ecosystem, similar to social media forums.

Seriously, how many times has Google introduced, and then subsequently killed a feature where users could leave some sort of comment / note / suggestion / review / whatever on search results?

This is just one of Google's revolving doors.

Next year, there will be a new thing that does this same thing, but looks slightly different, with a brand new buzzwordy name for sure.

Yup. I started working in Search at Google in 2007 and something like this was a hot project at the time. I don't think it ever got past the experiment phase back then either.

And do not cause global warming as much. In fact when you fill enough of them, and know which ones to discard, put them through a shredder and mix with a little clay or Portland cement to get a nice personalized flowerpot. Tech is not just computer crap. Pardon my French, but low tech is way sexier at this point for many of us.

Because all people were writing as notations was "irrelevant" "WTF is this?" "Obviously sponsored" "If I wanted that keyword excluded I would've done it myself" "This can't be further from what I was searching for" ad infinitum.. Missing: Must Include Google really seems to be on a self sabotage bender as of late
