All Videos On Facebook Will Soon Be Shared As Reels (techcrunch.com) 8
Facebook announced it will soon share all videos as reels by default, regardless of their length or orientation. "Up until now, users have been able to share both video posts and reels," notes TechCrunch. From the report: The company is also renaming the "Video" tab on its platform to the "Reels" tab. The update won't change what videos are recommended to you, Facebook says. [...] The idea behind the changes is to streamline the video-sharing format on the social network. It won't be the first time that a Meta-owned platform has done so, as Instagram began automatically converting new video posts under 15 minutes into reels back in 2022.
"Previously, you'd upload a video to Feed or post a reel using different creative flows and tools for each format," Facebook explained in a blog post. "Now, we're bringing these experiences together with a simplified publishing flow that gives you access to even more creative tools. We'll also give you control over your audience setting of who sees your reels." [...] The company says it will gradually roll out the changes globally over the coming months.

will they change the interface? (Score:2)
Reels are bad because the interface is bad. It's worse than normal posts.
I'm guessing they won't fix that, so now all videos will have a bad interface.

I actually don't know what reels are. And I have never used them, I'm only posting this because of my most recent experience sharing a video on that platform to show a vibration resonance on a machine, something I don't think is reels worthy, I think you can post videos as comments, but the paradigm as to how it organises and displays them has always been a little bit weird, I guess you could also post them as animated gifs with no sound, but the idea of that just sounds stupid. - perhaps an unlisted video on YouTube, but I think a 30 second clip would be considered a short, so your kinda screwed anyway.
Perhaps we need to regress to niche hobby forums, and host everything on Photobucket, lol.
For me Facebook is basically on life support, I remember when the news feed would show posts from friend and family and now you've gotta dig for that under feeds, or be engulfed in a torrent of AI slop...
