Google Refreshes Pixel Lineup With Tensor G5 and Qi2 Charging Across Four Models 7

Google announced its Pixel 10 smartphone lineup today, introducing the Tensor G5 processor and Qi2 magnetic wireless charging across four models priced from $799 to $1,799. The base Pixel 10 adds a 5x telephoto lens for the first time at $799. The $1,799 Pixel 10 Pro Fold becomes the first foldable phone to achieve IP68 water and dust resistance through a redesigned gearless hinge. All models feature 3,000-nit peak brightness displays, Android 16, and Google's Material 3 Expressive interface redesign. The Tensor G5 enables on-device AI features including Magic Cue for contextual information retrieval and Camera Coach for photography guidance. Pro models gain 100x hybrid zoom capabilities through computational photography. Preorders begin today for August 28 availability, except the Pro Fold which ships October 9.

  • Is it as good as the Pixel 8 Pro IP68? Dropped for 2 minutes in shallow fresh water and stopped working.

IP68 doesn't mean it's submersible in anything. It means it's submersible in still, clean water. Streams and being dropped are beyond what they test.

My advice is get a case and attach a strap to it. Get into the habit of putting your fingers through the strap and you won't drop another phone.

      • Oh that wasn't me who dropped it.

But the claim that IP68 doesn't apply to a phone being dropped in a lake is ridiculous. That was a fresh water lake, as clean as it can get (not chlorinated like a pool, not salted like the sea). Pretty sure that phone wouldn't have survived being slowly inserted 1m into distilled water for 30 minutes either. It's a scam, and that's why their warranty do not cover water damage.

If it really was like that then Google should honour the warranty. In the UK they would be obliged to by law.

          • According to Google, even in the UK liquid damage is not covered:

I understand UK law may override Google's warranty terms but I am not familiar with UK law to tell. In my opinion it's false advertising if they claim a phone is IP68 but won't cover any liquid damage (which would include being gently inserted into a fresh water bucket for less than 30 minutes).

          yup.

          Marketing: it's waterproof!
          Finance: nope.

  • Thats a lot of cashola for a phone. Even a camera, phone and computer. Or a phone, ipod and internet communicator. Cant wait for the iphone 17 pro comparisons next month. Oh wait yes I can.

When you go out to buy, don't show your silver.
